Materiels:
worsted weight yarn in two colors..I used red for the main part of my stocking and teri baby yarn doubled for the trim. It doesn't take much of either.
I hook

Gauge..Not important. My stocking measures;just over 2" acrosstrim to heel 4"middle of heel to toe 3"measuring diagonaly from the hanging loop to the end of the toe 5"

Abbreviations;sc= single crochet
ch= chain
rnd= round
st= stitch
tog= together

Working in rounds without joining. Mark the beginning of your rounds
with a piece of yarn,

Rnd 1; ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, . (6 sc)

Rnd 2; 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3; 1 sc in 1 st st, 2 sc in next st around. (18 sc)

Rnd 4 - 7; sc in each st around. (18 sc)

Heel: The heel is worked back and forth in rows on half the stitches. (short rows)

Row 1; sl st into next st, ch 1 sc in same st and next 8 st.ch 1 and turn. ( 9 sc)

Rows 2-4; sc in each stitch across. (9 sc)

Row 5; sc in 2 st, sc next 2 st tog, sc in 1, sc next 2 st tog,sc next 2 st, ch 1 and turn. ( 7 sc)

Row 6; sc in 1st st, sc next to st tog, sc next st, sc next 2 st tog,sc in last st, ch 1 and turn. ( 5 sc)

Working in rounds again for top of stocking....

Rnd 1; sc across 5 heel st, sc 4 down the side of the heel, sc across9 st, sc 4 up other side of heel. (22 sc)

Rnd 2; sc in next 9 st, sc next 2 st tog, sc in next 5 st,sc next 2 st tog, sc in last 4 st. (20 sc)
Rnd 3; sc around. ( 20 sc)

Rnd 4; sc in next 9 st, sc next 2 st tog, sc in next 3 st,sc next 2 st tog, sc in last 4 st. ( 18 sc)

Rnd 5-7; sc around. (18 sc)

At this point you will no longer mark the beginning of the round.

Hanging loop and trim:

Rnd 8: sc to the middle back of the stocking. sl st into the next st, ch 12, sl st into the 12th from your hook. Pull the end through and cut leaving the taillong enough to hide. This loop will hang to the outsideof the stocking until you are done with the trim.Join trim yarn with a sl st in the next st after the hanging loop, sc in same st,sc in each st around, end with a sc in the same st as the hanging loop beginning sl st. (18 sc)

Round 9; sc around, end. (18 sc) Hide ends securely and you are done!
